This is the second album proper from the kings and queens of Kinshasa’s frontier-like musical scene. Since 2005, Konono have taken their carnival-like festivities around the globe several times over, but here they remain true to their own sound, at its core hypnotic and groove-fuelled, traditonal bazombo trance music mashed with the distortion of their modern home-made gear (amps, likembes a.k.a. thumb pianos and rag-tag percussion kits). New to the mix are electric guitars and bass (played by members of a young Konono cover band), as well as a slew of guest vocalists and musicians. July 16th at National.
