Minimal techno Danish producer Anders Trentemøller has always operated with one foot in emo electronica, the other steeped in a variety of rock textures. Not unlike his first full-length, this second effort is dark, unsettling, intricate and better suited to an intimate listen than a cranked up spin on the dancefloor. But Yonder is more organic and warm than its predecessor, with its array of live instruments and rock influences (standout rockabilly track “Silver Surfer” is a nod to Pulp Fiction’s “Misirlou”). Trentemøller remains a master of slow-built, deftly woven melancholy, and he introduces haunting vocals to the mix this time around.
